Simplifying live event coordination
When Slang initially introduced Classes, there was no product integration. Scheduling, invitations, and video conferencing were manually coordinated via various third-party apps, which resulted in logistical nightmares for our coordination team and abysmal learner attendance rates.
Our goal was to integrate the Classes experience into the existing Learn App, so that learners could easily view their schedules and access their next class with a single click.
Solution
Seamlessly integrated Classes
Scheduling and class access are the primary elements of the Classes experience, so I designed the interface so that either touchpoint was only a tap away. With Zoom fully integrated, the learner joins the class directly from the main series screen.
We also had to consider graduation, which occurs every 16 events. Progress in each series determines advancement or repetition, so it was crucial for learners to understand series insights. I structured the flow to allow learners to review their series results before moving on to select the next one.
Consistent across web and mobile
Visibility and context are key to the Manager experience, so I made sure that managers can easily find and understand the content that their learners are studying and which ones are actively studying it, right in the LMS.
Teacher and coordinator counterpart
Recognizing that existing event management software couldn't meet our unique requirements, we set out to build our own. I led the design for this event management platform, built to efficiently coordinate hundreds of weekly classes and track teachers and students.
In addition to coordination, this platform provides the tools teachers need to teach each class, track learning progress, and evaluate each student throughout the series.
Project outcomes
Attendance increase
Within a month after launch, attendance rates have increased from 20% to 78%. Learners have also expressed an overall positive sentiment towards the simplicity of the integration.
