Most recently, I led design on a community-oriented, online learning experience.

Slang users love attending our online Professional English classes, but keeping track of Zoom links and constantly updating schedules was a major challenge. I led the design on a cross-functional team to build an experience that integrated with our existing learning platform, replacing their logistical hassles with delight.

Role

As lead designer, I led research and discovery, prototyping, visual design, and testing. I worked alongside a PM and engineer.

Objective

Our primary objective was to remove logistical complexity by providing a way for users to view their class schedule and access classes directly from the Slang app. Our business objective was to increase attendance rates in order to provide a clear ROI to account owners.

Outcome

Since launching, attendance rates have increased from 20% to 78%.

The event coordination process involved emailing Google Calendar invites and copy and pasting Zoom links to thousands of students and dozens of teachers each week. Naturally, this was incredibly error prone and resulted in a low class attendance rate and a steady flow of support tickets. After reviewing the options available for event management software and determining that none of them solved our unique needs, we set out to build our own.
